Innovative Education in Bursa Technical University Faculty of Forestry

Dean of Faculty of Forestry Dr. Ramadan Kurt said that in 2015-2016 academic year Forest Engineering and Forest Industry Engineering Departments will start the undergraduate program and begin to accept students and noted that curriculum of the programs are essentially created on and designed according to the expectations of national and international industry and the requirements of public institutions and Bologna and MÜDEK criteria.

Prof. Kurt said that unlike existing other relevant departments in Turkey, BTU Forest Faculty provides 7 + 1 Engineering Orientation application model which is a pioneering curriculum in the country. Engineering Orientation program will provide undergrad students 1 semester industrial practice in industry companies which are members of Association of Inegol Furniture Manufacturers (AIFM) and Inegöl Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), by this practice students will learn the requirements of the market before graduation. According to the protocols signed, social security costs of Engineering students during 16 weeks of Orientation will be paid by BTU. Prof. Dr. Kurt said that he believe students graduated from the 30% of English program will be a solution to the skilled work force problem of the forest products industry like furniture design, wood products, paper and packaging.

Prof. Kurt told that addition to the undergraduate program, there are 6 Master (4 of them is interdisciplinary) and 1 doctoral program exists and currently 32 students continue graduate education. Bursa Technical University, Faculty of Forestry has academic staff who are well-trained, young, energetic, willing to interdisciplinary work, motivated to innovation and developments in the field and there are advanced research laboratories with a capital investment of 3,000,000 TL which helps to carry out national and international projects (EU, TUBITAK, etc.).
