The Department of Forest Engineering undergraduate program admitted its first stream of students in 2014-2015 academic year. The annual admission quota is 50. The students are educated, trained, equipped, and well qualified on protection, management, and enhancement of the country's forest resources, prevention of the soil from erosion, obtaining the highest and optimal public benefits from forest products and services, arranging public relation, preservation of the country's wildlife, national park management and forest inventory and planning. Within the scope of Mevlana, Farabi and Erasmus+ exchange programs, our students have the opportunity to continue a part of their education at different universities in Turkey or other countries.
The language of instruction in the program is Turkish. The duration of the education is 4 years (8 terms). Having successfully completed the requirements of the department, the graduates are awarded with diploma and the title of “Forest Engineer”. Before graduation, each forest engineer candidate is obliged to complete a graduation project and an internship related to “Forest Engineering” under the supervision of a teaching staff. Forest Engineers can work at center and rural organizations of General Directorate of Forestry, General Management of Afforestation and Erosion Control, General Management of Forest and Village Relations, General Management of Nature Protection and National Parks. Furthermore, they can find jobs within the body of state institutions and organizations such as Research Institutions, Municipalities, General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works or plantations which belong to private sectors, import and export firms and various sectors similar to these.
The Department of Forest Engineering has eleven divisions, which are: Silviculture, Forest Entomology and Protection, Forest Mensuration and Biometry, Forest Economy, Forest Policy, Soil Science and Ecology, Forest Botany, Watershed Management, Forest Management, Forest Transportation and Information Technologies, Wild Life.
The Department of Forest Engineering currently has 16 faculty members. The department is very active in research and also offers MSc and PhD programs in Forest Engineering. Bursa, 45% of which is covered with forestry areas rich in biodiversity, serves as a natural laboratory for the students and academic staff to pursue their scientific studies. Bursa and its environments, with their natural beauties and historical heritages, provide the students with good opportunities to have a better knowledge of cultural values. The education is also supplemented by laboratory education in various undergraduate courses. The Department of Forest Engineering has the sufficient physical equipment for the students to receive both theoretical and practical courses all through their education. Our laboratories are all fully equipped with tools and machinery thanks to the projects of our academic personnel and the support given by the university.
Students also spend one semester compulsory internship in companies in Bursa to experience working in a professional environment. They have the opportunity to work in companies such as General Directorate of Forestry, Municipalities, General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works.
