Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences in Bursa Technical University (BTU) opened more interdisciplinary graduate programs.
BTU carrying out increasing number of University-Industry Collaborations according to its vision to find solutions to the problems of the industry. BTU is continuing research, development and educational activities; with university-industry cooperation also contributes to the increasing development of the country. One of those contributions is the new graduate training program within the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences was the addition of Biocomposites Graduate Program. As it is known, in Faculty of Forestry, Forest Engineering and (30% English) Forest Industry Engineering Department with the 7 + 1 long-term training curriculum will accept its first graduate students during 2015.
By holding "Innovative State University" slogan, BTU administration manages educational activities by taking into account the expectations from the engineers of the era. One of the successful result of innovative educational approaches of BTU is establishing the Biocomposite Engineering Master Program which is the first in Marmara and the second in the country.
Head of the new post-graduate program, Biocomposites Engineering, Prof.Dr. M. Said Fidan said University administration acts with the desire to fulfill its duties in the socio-economic field to achieve the goal of Turkey in 2024 and later dates. Prof.Dr. Fidan said BTU follows closely the developments on the education and underlined that BTU continually update itself.
Prof. Dr. Fidan continued that: "In our country and in the world, the rapid developments and innovations that have occurred recently in the area of science and technology showed that research and studies should be carried out in a multidisciplinary approach. In the global world, sustainability policies as a result of increased awareness of the environment, industrial ecology, eco-efficiency, cleaner production and green engineering with a new generation of versatile materials concepts, has emerged as an integrated approach in the development of products and processes. Due to the negative impact of oil resources to the environment is a driving force for the production of biobased materials. Wood wastes, agricultural residues and wastes, annual plants, natural plant fibers, carbohydrates, starch and biopolymers produced using renewable forest biomass from agricultural sources such as vegetable oils can be successfully used in composite manufacturing. These biocomposites can be used in a variety of fields, such as: food and packaging industry, biomedicals, aerospace products, automotive components, hygiene products, agricultural products, construction and electronic products or in furniture components. Materials derived from national sources that can be used in the production of various fields have utmost importance for the industry of our country. "
Prof. Dr. Fidan emphasizing that Biocomposite Engineering Graduate Program opened in BTU create the scientific infrastructure of these products requiring advanced technology for the production in our country, and accepts graduate students from Engineering Faculties, Science Faculties and the Forest Faculties. Prof. Dr. Fidan noted that "Biocomposites Engineering Graduate Program will contribute the needs of industry on existing industrial production system for the city of Bursa and the various industries, energy production of high value-added biobased products with efficient processes, testing and analysis methods in related fields".
