Message of Department Head

Today, the forest products industry has a business volume of approximately 20 billion dollars and the furniture industry alone has a business volume of 10 billion dollars. Our country is proud to have a leading wood-based board sector in Europe, such as 9 million cubic meters. Universities have serious duties in increasing the share of the forest products sector in the manufacturing industry and making it competitive in the global arena. To contribute to this, the aim of our Bursa Technical University Forest Industrial Engineering Department is; It is determined as to train engineers with technical and managerial knowledge who can work in different units in enterprises that process forest products and transform them into intermediate or final products.

Established in 2010, Faculty of Forestry continues its research and development activities with its Forest Industrial Engineering Department, faculty member and research assistant. Our faculty members have a scientifically strong, experienced, qualified and dynamic academic structure. Our academic staff consists of academics who have domestic and international scientific studies, research projects supported by the European Union and TUBITAK, and many publications published in indexed journals.

In our department, research and training activities are carried out on subjects such as processing all lignocellulosic organic materials, starting from timber and log, with the latest and modern techniques, turning them into products that will create benefit, composite materials, furniture production and design, and non-wood forest products.

In our country, most of the factories that produce forest products and the enterprises that provide them with various chemicals, additives, machine parts and technical support are concentrated in the Marmara and Aegean regions. Bursa and its region are very rich in applications for the Department of Forestry Industrial Engineering, thanks to its industrial enterprises in the production of timber, veneer, composite materials (chipboard, fiberboard, etc.), paper and cardboard, especially furniture, thanks to its advanced industrial infrastructure in production and design, research and employment opportunities for graduates.

The main business fields of Forest Industrial Engineers are private sector organizations operating in various production branches. Producing more intermediate products such as timber, veneer, plywood, wood-based composite products, paper/cardboard and pulp, or parquet, paneling, furniture, door and window joinery, paper, packaging, etc. They work in different units in organizations that produce final products, from raw material supply and production to marketing, product design and sales. In the public sector, he is also employed in various public institutions such as the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, DPT, TÜBİTAK, TSE.

Our undergraduate program curriculum has been prepared in a similar way to the curriculum of education and research institutions in the same field in developed countries and in accordance with the Bologna process and MÜDEK criteria. Protocols have been signed with the İnegöl Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the İnegöl Furniture Industrialists Association for the implementation of the undergraduate program in our department with the 7+1 Engineering Orientation (vocational training program in business) model. With this model, it is aimed to gain knowledge, skills, experience, practice and workplace experience that cannot be given to the student under traditional formal education conditions in engineering education. Our graduate and doctorate programs continue in our department, and our undergraduate program has started accepting students since 2015-2016. In line with the needs of the sector, our undergraduate program has been opened as an optional English preparatory class.

The Department of Forestry Industrial Engineering aims to provide qualified postgraduate education to its students in the field of forest products industry, both theoretically and practically. Another aim of our master's and doctoral programs is to enable our students to be more successful in their duties in the public and private sectors, in order to ensure that our students represent the Forest Industrial Engineering profession in an honorable way and apply the principles of this profession in the most correct way. In addition, it is aimed that our students who want to continue their postgraduate education by completing their undergraduate program will gain the ability to define the problems within the scope of Forest Industrial Engineering on a national and international scale and to produce solutions by taking into account the technological developments. Graduates of the Forestry Industrial Engineering Department can continue their graduate education in Forestry Industrial Engineering master's and doctoral programs, as well as in the interdisciplinary programs, the Forest Products program, Biocomposite Engineering and Urban Forestry master's programs, where the language of instruction is Turkish and 100% English.
